You’ll get the full review on Tuesday, but for now…
The pillow-soft opening was great. My table was treated like royalty, it was excessive in all the right ways, and it was exactly what I expected from Jeff Ruby.
Go to Open Table and get a reservation… you won’t regret it. More details on Tuesday, along with my super big announcement!

….that there will be no more entries from “The Boyfriend” on this blog, and instead there will be entries from “The Fiancee”?
Ha, no. Nice guess though! Unless you know something I don’t.

I have been waiting patiently for Bootsy’s to open… anticipating your review, Julie!
Enough teasing about the Tuesday news. Make it Monday news for us all and save us the agony of another 24 hours.
As for Bootsy’s, I’m going tonight and can’t wait to check the place out. Look forward to your full review though.

Sorry! I can’t reveal until Tuesday. And I HATE keeping secrets. So you know it’s a big deal!

Both contributors are getting sex change operations, such that the primary blog operator will henceforth take over the pseudonym of “The Boyfriend” and the current “The Boyfriend” will henceforth pen as “The Fabulous Flavorita”
LOL TJ,
My guess is you are, in the words of ZZ Tops, going Nationwide. As to Bootsy’s a neighbor, who is a great cook himself, is a server there, he said the food is very good but the problem has been the green staff. Apparently the investor soft opening was not pretty.
The blog operator is replacing “The Boyfriend” with “The Bootsy” and The Bootsy will soon be funk-i-fying this blog (all starting Tuesday)
You know, all of your guesses are going to make my announcement somewhat anticlimactic.
Not married, not getting married, not pregnant. Had no problem with the staff at Bootsy’s, though there were a lot more of them than there were of us and they got a bit “hovery”.

Agree re “hovery” [sic] service comment. I think over-eager and, perhaps, attentively intrusive is more like it. It’s one thing to be attentive, however it’s another thing to not allow anyone to complete a sentence. Good service knows when to back off….I would rather have them hovering and awaiting eye contact than constantly interrupting (which is somewhat what we experienced Saturday night). Food was excellent (tried 8 tapas dishes), decor and atmosphere were fun. I would just suggest reigning in the service a tad….tapas dinners are already a chaotic affair because of the steady stream of orders coming to the table, coupled with fresh plates, silverware, drinks, water refills, sharing etc. It can be overwhelming at times, so the staff needs to know when to back off a bit. All goes toward providing a more enjoyable dining experience. I hope this place does well…we found the tapas to be well prepared and tasty, with few clunkers (there’s always a few, or at least some that are less impressive than others). They were also experimenting with “bread service,” which we agreed was a good idea, as there are lots of delicious sauces to soak up, and the grilled sourdough was quite good in that capacity
The sushi chef seemed like one seriously lonely dude. That’s one obvious incongruity in the place (and it is a place of many incongruities, at least in the design/decor arena)…but who knows. It might work, in a bizarre bit of culinary synergy.
Hi, Casey–
They hovered and interrupted, which I just boned up to being new, nervous, and not having a lot to do on Thursday night. Interesting to note that it was happening on Saturday, which had to have been busier.
We had no bread service, and you’re right, that would have been a great touch had we gotten it.
I’ll talk more about it in my review, posted tomorrow. I’m so darn impatient sometimes!
