My friend Rose and I had lunch (to talk about her doing a blog, yay!) at Relish this afternoon. A few things have changed since my last visit, and for the better. First, I won’t be so cocky as to think that they read the blog, but two of my biggest complaints were fixed: the “small plates, medium plates, and large plates” menu hierarchy has been fixed, and the menu is arranged, instead, by theme: starches, salads, poultry, beef, vegetarian, seafood, etcetera. This makes things much, much less confusing. Also, the excessive balsamic reduction has been virtually eliminated! Thank goodness. Both Rose’s and my sleeves were safe.
Rose and I both got shrimp drop soup and salads: I got the asian chicken salad, which on the menu sounded like chicken salad, not salad with chicken. It was still good, with a nice soy vinaigrette and crunchy peanuts and almost buttery-tasting chicken. I would absolutely get it again, and at 8.95, it wasn’t a bad price for a salad and good service. Rose got the house salad, which she liked quite a bit as well.
We splurged on dessert, which was great– a very dense, rich cheesecake and a very dense, rich pumpkin creme brulee. The texture of the creme brulee was a little bit “off”– much more dense and solid than I’m used to– but the flavor was a nice, subtly spicy-sweet pumpkin. The plating was very pretty.
With these improvements, I might just make this a more frequent lunch destination. $6.95 (the cost of their lunch specials) is downright cheap. Still wish they did a nicer cheese in their grilled cheese and soup combo… are you listening? Even swiss would be an improvement! Look at Lavomatic’s grilled cheese du jour! You can do it!
