Seriously, when are we going to realize that Prohibition was 75 years ago? Ohio’s byzantine alcohol laws aren’t much better– high taxes on alcoholic beverages, restrictions on where liquor can be sold (the state liquor store is incredibly annoying), no alcohol before 1 PM on Sundays. Not everyone believes alcohol (in moderation) is a bad thing, and if you think it’s the work of the Devil, don’t drink it.
Crap. I got political, didn’t I?

Byzantine is the perfect word, and sums up the reason why so very many people mock the midwest. (Though I feel the tax on carbonated drinks to be hysterical as well. There are bubbles in my cola so I must pay The King of Ohio?)
And don’t even get me started on not being able to have a beer while watching a fully-nude dancer at a gentleman’s club. (But I can have a sodie pop just like I’m seven-years-old!!!) Puh-leeze.
Okay, I’m off my soapbox. I’m going to go watch THUNDER ROAD with Robert Mitchum now.
As a New Orleanian I am constantly amazed by the alcohol laws in other places. As a French Creole I always had red wine with dinner, even as a child.
What other marketable goods are restricted to only being sold on certain days of the week? None. I think that alone speaks volumes.

I remember when last call for alcohol was 1am until they extended it to 2am. Everyone was stoked! I know I was. But then again when was the last time I was drinking at 2am. NEVER! heh.
