Via Vite was kind enough to cater the Mercantile Library’s presentation of a reading of The United States of Arugula by David Kamp a few weeks ago, so I got to try their delicious spreads and dips (that I never get when I actually go there):
(His Julia Child impression is hysterical)
They sent over their assortment of bruschettas with a few dips: a pesto-based dip, a roasted eggplant dip, and some roquefort cheese. Delicious– even while standing and balancing a book and a camera. Completely coincidentally, I ended up at Via Vite for dinner later that evening, but didn’t take any pictures as it was not really a “food blogging” dinner (but one that involved people who work at my company, and unless I’m alone I feel a bit weird about taking pictures of food in a business setting). Let me assure you that it was delicious and I completely understood their #4 rating, particularly after having Pietoso’s roasted chicken, which is cited by many as showing off the real talent of a chef. I still dream about it.
Anyway.
I made the author, David Kamp, pose for that cheesy picture. I had actually just finished reading the book on a plane a few days before, laughing so hard at the antics of James Beard and Julia Child that I’m sure the guy next to me thought I was nuts (not unlike the time I read Marley and Me and cried and the woman next to me also thought I was nuts). Look for some more on the Mercantile on wmdm pretty soon, as I have a date with their cookbook section….
