News on Tom’s Pot Pies?

by julie on May 19, 2009

I walked past the Vine street store of Tom’s Pot Pies and noticed it was “closed for reorganization” and pretty much cleaned out. Has anyone heard any more? I love his pies (as I know many of you do) and heard from Veggie Option that they’re going to be available at Bigg’s… but it’s not quite the same as that humble little store. Any news?

I know he never quite hit the kind of sales levels that were going to sustain his business. which is sad because this was an excellent and unique lunch….and he said his sales dropped in the summer, folks seemed to want pot pies in the colder weather.

His website includes a phone number and an email address – I believe the phone number listed is his personal cel number

There is a place called something along the lines of “Tom Gobbler’s” on sixth street, next to where the old Subway used to be near Main (I think it was a Frisch’s at some point). Could it be related?

(The “Tom Gobbler’s” hasn’t opened–it looks like they are still setting up. Mostly known through paint on the window.)

They never even looked open to me in the first place. I’ve wanted to try it for many months now. Sorry to see a place go that may have had good food.

Tom’s pies are awesome– but his hours were strictly lunch (11-2:30 or something like that).

I find that pot pies are too filling for lunch. They make me want to take a nap. I always wanted to pick up his pies for dinner, but he wasn’t open.

Nothing like a steaming hot pot pie in August.
    Not!
But in the winter they are(were) awesome, and went excellent with a Moerlein OTR ale. Yes at lunch, vacation days ;-D

Oh, dear. That same “closed for reorganization” sign was up 3 weeks ago when I went by. It also said “may open next week for delivery.” A friend said his pies were to be sold at Kroger (rather than Biggs).

As for Cold Turkey on 6th St., it never occurred to me it might be linked to Tom’s potpies. But I saw two people leave the restaurant about 5:00 today dressed in turkey costumes – sadly, with no signs or promotional materials in evidence . . .

Sorry to hear about Tom’s – one of the best non-summer places for lunch downtown. Not only a good pot pie but a genuine nice guy too. I went in once with only a $20 (cash only policy) and he did not have change. Tom told me to take the pie and bring back smaller bills when I had it. One over priced bottled of tea at the store down the street later and he had the cash – felt bad for him, and now I know why.

A more central downtown location might have helped him with the at work crowd. I worked down on Central and he told me to just call and he’d deliver the pie. Once again, nice guy.

Hope he works something out soon – Cincinnati needs Tom’s pies.
