Five Guys open in Clifton

by julie on June 19, 2009

It’s open! I haven’t been to the Clifton location yet, but you can check out my review from their Dulles location here.

Have you tried it?  What do you think?

I work at UC so I went up there for lunch today. It was packed, but the service was fast and friendly. The burgers and fries tasted like good diner food.

The food was delicious, and they were serving up extra-generous helpings of their fries, which already come in huge portions.

Service was extra friendly, and every employee was EXTREMELY enthusiastic, but isn’t that what most chains push when they open a new location? We’ll see how long that lasts.

However, I am convinced that if Quatman’s offered the same toppings as places like Five Guys and Terry’s Turf Club–especially the grilled onions and mushrooms–Quatman’s would easily be the best hamburger in Cincinnati, without a doubt.

Overall, I thought the burgers were good. The service was friendly and polite. The place was bustling and bit too loud with background noise for my taste. I would not recommend it as a first date location, but it can make for good alternative for a lunch break if you work in the area.

Lessons learned:
1. There is no need to order the large fries – I wound up taking home a 22 oz cup brimming to the top and over flowing of Cajun flavored french fries.
2. The “Little Burgers” are not that little – one bacon cheeseburger was more then enough to fulfill my deep hunger. Why would you ever need to or want to order the regular size?
3. Check to make sure you get your bacon on your bacon cheeseburger – Sadly though with the option of “adding extra bacon and/or cheese, since it’s already on the burger at no additional cost” maybe the way to ensure that bacon strips make it into your mouth.

I think I’d still choose Quatman’s any day!

I’m all about not trying a new place the first few weeks it opens, but I have to admit I think I might break my rule. Hanging out in DC a lot and craving Five Guys will do that to any Cincinnati girl!

Looking forward to more reviews!

I’ve been to their locations in Washington D.C. and Atlanta. I was told I visited the original location in D.C. near Chinatown there which was really great. The suburban Atlanta location was also good, and I will be going to the new Clifton Heights location this afternoon and expect the same great product.

Just visited the Clifton location tonight (around 8:30pm) and it was amazing! Not knowing the portion size, I ordered a regular bacon cheeseburger and will probably feel stuffed for the rest of the night.

Service was fast and polite. The cashier was very helpful in answering my questions. Boyfriend and I split a bacon cheese hotdog which was very good as well.

I know they just opened so they’re still ironing things out, but BF said the Atlanta location wrapped the burgers in paper inside of the foil. The Clifton one did not — which made eating my burger messier than I’d like…

They have a four way tea dispenser (you push a button to get iced tea, green tea, etc.), but it comes out a little warm so you have to put A LOT of ice in it to cool it down.

I will definitely go again and I’m very pleased to see new food options in the Clifton area. They picked a great time to open, since a lot of UC students are gone for the summer. When school is back in session Five Guys will definitely have everything in line.

If you like Five Guys, you would really like Z Burger. It has better food and service. The onion rings are amazing too. Hopefully, they’ll move one there too.
