Honeybaked Fire Roasted Bacon

July 31, 2009

A quick post– Stopped by biggs on the way to a road trip, and the Honeybaked Ham kiosk had samples of locally made fire roasted bacon. Wow. They take the ham coating and spices and put it on thick-cut bacon. I don’t even really like ham, but I loved the sweet, sticky, smoky flavor of [...]

Review: Keystone Bar and Grill

July 30, 2009

I used to live in Covington, back when Scalea’s was around. I loved the deli area (the guy who always worked in the deli now works in the bakery area of Greenup Cafe, he’s great), and always got a sandwich involving rare roast beef, cheddar and coleslaw. I found my cat Mooch a couple of [...]

Hamburger Mary’s reopening TONIGHT

July 28, 2009

Man, I make up for not being around for a bit with a lot of posts, don’t I? Anyway, Hamburger Mary’s (900 Vine Street) reopens tonight! According to Twitter and the Business Courier, it’s just the restaurant portion– Dirty Mary’s, the Bar, will open later. They’ll be open for lunch starting on the 29th (tomorrow).

Just Cured: Closed

July 28, 2009

I’m sad to report that Just Cured is closing its operations.  Just Cured produced some of the best smoked salmon I’ve ever had– all locally produced and very high quality.  He partnered, at one point, with the Jean Robert group (pre-transition) and sold his products at grocery stores and at Luken’s at Findlay Market (which [...]

Food Blog Ethics

July 28, 2009

Don’t worry, for once, this isn’t a rant. Just found a great site for food bloggers, with an ethical code of conduct. This is fantastic! Here’s the general food blog code (to be honest, it’s very “What I learned in Kindergarten,” but many people need a reminder). There’s one particular to restaurant review blogging, as [...]

I’m back (and a mini-review about BlogHer)!

July 27, 2009

After two whirlwind weeks of business travel, I’m back and will be posting again regularly. Did you miss me? I missed YOU. Food roundup: I was sick for most of my Chicago trip, but did make it to Hugo’s Frog Bar (and thus Gibson’s; same kitchen) and BIN 36.  I’ll be writing about both of [...]

Best of wine me, dine me: Julie’s favorite eats (in Cincinnati)

July 21, 2009

“Best” is such a subjective word. I prefer “favorite.” “Best” is for more objective things, like “Best Runner in the World” (you can, at least, time that!). I’ll be different — other publications do “Best of”– so here is my list of Cincinnati favorites, in no particular order. Favorite Burger: Terry’s Turf Club Phone: (513) [...]

DC Mini-Reviews

July 15, 2009

I’m staying at the Gaylord National Harbor, which is kind of a cool space– though totally geared towards convention travelers. A few places I’ve tried: Ketchup: Interesting concept (flavored ketchups), really bad execution. It’s a chain restaurant that has been touted on the Food Network, but doesn’t live up to the hype. The “threesome” of [...]

Open Thread: gettin’ out of town..

July 13, 2009

I’m in the lovely District of Columbia (well, technically, Maryland) all this week, so posting might be sporadic. Anything y’all want to talk about? Consider this an “open thread”– go to it!
