The word I swore I’d never use…

September 30, 2009

(Guest post by The Boyfriend) Orgasmic. There.  I said it, and I’m glad. A high school English teacher and former newspaper reporter with an average to above-average vocabulary, I can do better.  And when I started writing the occasional post for wine me, dine me, I swore I’d never use…that word…for describing particularly tasty vittles, [...]

Blue Elephant to open in Oakley

September 25, 2009

From the Enquirer: Two restaurateurs from San Jose will soon bring a taste of Thai food from the West Coast to the Queen City. Saowanit and Somsak Wongtouwan plan to open the Blue Elephant, a Thai bistro and sushi restaurant in January along Wasson Road in Oakley. Am I missing something?  Don’t we already have [...]

New Commenting and Disclosure Policies

September 22, 2009

Well, that was an eventful 24 hours or so. Because of all of the comments I got on Local 127, some of them really engaging, and others… well, not so engaging… comments, I’ve now got a commenting policy.  Until now, I have let all comments go through.  They will continue to be unmoderated– that is, [...]

Re-Review: Sung Korean Bistro

September 22, 2009

I realized that the first restaurant I wrote about, Sung Korean Bistro, way back in November of 2007, hasn’t been revisited since then. I don’t know why– I loved the food the first time (and the meal I had at a wine dinner a month or two later), but when Terry and I go out [...]

Guess the Random Food Item

September 22, 2009

Terry picked these up at Whole Foods the other day (the Mason location, I think, while I was getting a manicure. So girly, I know.). What are they? Hint: if you lived through high school English, you might have read about them.

Terry’s Turf Club Up for Sale?

September 21, 2009

A little bird (birdie #1, as I call him or her) tells me that Terry’s Turf Club is up for sale. My guess is Terry wants to get out on top– and concentrate on fly fishing (but that’s just a guess. For all I know he wants to concentrate on his neon sign collection.). Word [...]

Review: Local 127 (First Impressions)

September 21, 2009

The much-ballyhooed replacement restaurant for Jean-Robert at Pigall’s opened this past Tuesday.  I had intended on going on Wednesday (the opening night was booked), but ended up pushing my reservations out until Friday.  I figured that this was for the best– I really don’t tend to like to go to restaurants on opening night, but [...]

Because Cincinnati needs the chance to thrive.

September 20, 2009

I try to not get too political here, but this is something I truly believe in: No on Issue 9.  It affects businesses, small businesses– like the ones I talk about all the time here on wine me, dine me.  It has impact past the Streetcar, and into the viability of the metro area as [...]

L’shana tova!

September 19, 2009

To my Jewish friends, a very sweet new year! A traditional Rosh Hashanah dish is apple cake– I’m linking to a couple of recipes here both for my reference (man, do I love apple cake!) and in case you’re looking for a recipe. Smitten Kitchen’s (which looks amazing), made in a tube pan for lots [...]
