Celebrate International Bacon Day!

by julie on September 3, 2009

So, Saturday is International Bacon Day!

I can’t think of a better day. Except, perhaps, International Gin and Tonic Day.

So, how are you going to celebrate? Baconnaise? Bacon vodka? Porkopolis gelato from Dojo? Maybe my bacon-filled baked beans? Let me know your supreme bacon ideas in the comments.

Bare with me, this idea is on the fly. But I think it could work for brunch.

    BLTini

    1 1/2 oz gin
    2 ounces Bloody Mary Mix
    1 ounce lime juice
    1 tsp dry white vermouth
    dash angostura bitters
    5 well done bacon strips
    watercress

-Mix first five ingredients in a shaker with ice.
-Put bacon strips in a food processor and pulse into a finely ground crumb consistency
-Ring martini glass with bacon crumbs, pour tomato cocktail in glass
    -Add watercress garnish

There is definitely room for improvement on this one, but this is the first idea I had.

You know I’m all about the deconstructed elements.

Alternately, I’d be just as happy celebrating this “holiday” with a well made BLT sandwich – complete with mayo (which I have opted to hold in the cocktail form).

I’m fairly certain Terry and I will celebrate with a good, old fashioned BLT.

PS – *Bear* with me. Too many of these cocktails, and anyone may *bare* with me, too.

I think an old-fashioned BLT with fresh tomatoes from the garden is in order. I even have *gasp* WHITE bread in the house. Makes great toast for BLT’s.

    Thanks for the reminder.

Terry will only eat BLTs with white bread. I prefer something artisan. What do we normally do? Eat white bread. ;)

Ok, so I ate some Boar’s Head bacon today in your honor thanks to the lovely neighbors upstairs who had us up for breakfast. I brough carmelized onions, mixed mushrooms and garlic and of course, some homemade chocolate chip scones I baked earlier this morning. Yum! Oh yeah, the mimosa’s and coffee with Irish cream were good too.
