Cincinnati Seasoned Just Released

October 30, 2009

I love local cookbooks. The Junior League– whether here or elsewhere– is known for it. Terry’s quite the aficianado– he’s got Junior League and church cookbooks from all over the country, including the best selling River Road cookbooks from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They sell more copies than the best-selling chef cookbooks around. Why? There’s a [...]

A wrench in the plans: issues with Jean-Robert’s new restaurant

October 30, 2009

The Business Courier is reporting that Jean-Robert’s Table, set to open the first of December, will violate his non-compete, which is set to expire a year after their partnership ends. I’m not a lawyer, and won’t even try to think about the non-compete.  Aren’t non-competes historically hard to enforce? Inquiring minds…

Two new wine blogs..

October 26, 2009

I *am* wine me, dine me– and while I don’t often talk about wine, I do want to share two new(ish) wine blogs in the Cincinnati area. First, and this one has more to do with food– Burke Morton’s Wine Think. Burke is the former sommelier for Jean-Robert at Pigall’s, and former general manager for [...]

Review: Hamburger Mary’s

October 23, 2009

(Pictures coming later) I can’t tell you how much time I spent at the old Hamburger Mary’s.  In college, it was a regular hangout for my friends and me, and their karaoke (er, Mary-Oke) was a lot of fun.  I even liked it after it switched to Universal Grille, as a lot of my favorite [...]

Findlay Market, Taste of Belgium, and wine me, dine me say No on Nine

October 19, 2009

The election is a mere couple of weeks away.  I have this platform and want to take advantage of it– by getting just a little bit political.  This is something that reflects the content of my blog: I won’t endorse a politician here, or a party, or get into national political issues.  I will, however, [...]

So the commenting experiment didn’t work.

October 14, 2009

You all obviously hate it, because no one’s commenting! Back to the old system– but I still reserve the right to delete when necessary. Fire away.

Jean-Robert de Cavel to open new restaurant downtown.

October 13, 2009

It’s about time. After Pigall’s closed in February, I can’t tell you how many comments and emails I’ve gotten asking me what Jean-Robert was going to do next. First, of course, there was the MCI partnership. Then, there was the Northside Can Factory rumor. Then, there was his partnership with the CSO. Now? His new [...]

Tweets to Follow– Soapbox Media

October 13, 2009

I told you it was a good week here at wine me, dine me! I got a photo request from Soapbox last week for an article about being one of the top ten twitterers to follow in Cincinnati. What an honor (and I’m in good company)! Some of these folks I consider friends, others peers, [...]

Cincinnati’s Blogosphere in Cincy Chic

October 12, 2009

This is kind of a fun week for press here at wine me, dine me. The happy faces at the left are part of Cincy Chic’s “Blogosphere” issue, featuring yours truly, Chris Graves, Kelley Long and Matthew Fenton.  Chris Graves is in charge of the Enquirer’s Locals on Living (of which I am a member), [...]
