The old Betta’s is now Cafe Istanbul– Turkish food, related to the location at Newport on the Levee. There’s quite an international presence in Mt. Lookout– Thai, Japanese, Turkish– can’t wait to (re)try it again– I haven’t been to Cafe Istanbul in a couple of years.

WHile their expresso is little more than motor oil, their vegetarian lasagna is to DIE for !
Woo hoo! I was surprised to find them closed in Newport – so glad they’ll be opening a new store.
I went there last night expecting turkish/middle eastern food. was very very dissapointed to find that its trying to be italian. only middle eastern is some apps like hummus and grape leaves. the grape leaves are not made in house. Dont waste your time.

btw, i had salmon, it was ok but the mashed potato’s that came with it were cold and very dry, maybe were instant? my friends who got pasta said it was ok, no liquor license, but they wont let you bring beer, only wine, which they charge a $5 corking fee. I wish them good luck but I will not be back.
I have to stop reading this at 9:30 in the morning. Is it lunch yet?
