Christ Hospital + Chefs = Heart Healthy Food.

by julie on February 25, 2010

I like to eat well. I also would like to lose a few pounds. Yeah, I know, I should be writing a blog about marathons, not food, right? Wrong!

Christ Hospital has teamed up with 12 pilot restaurants to analyze their menus and put the Christ Hospital Tower next to menu items to denote that they’re heart healthy. Each entree has fewer than:

  • 650 calories
  • 20 grams of fat
  • 7 grams of saturated fat
  • 800 mg of sodium
  • 100 mg of cholesterol

These are consistent with American Heart Association guidelines.

Right now there are 12 restaurants in the pilot, and the pilot covers various price points and cuisines:

Aladdin’s Eatery
Brown Dog Cafe and Catering
Cafe Bella
Chalk Food and Wine
Cincinnati Sports Club Deli
JeanRo Bistro
Lavomatic Cafe
Local 127
Mac’s Pizza Pub
The Polo Grille
The Summit
World Food Bar

You can listen to the story on WVXU, featuring Josh Campbell from World Food Bar/Mayberry.

They are going to leave the Wendy’s in the lobby open at Christ right?

When I had my appendix ripped out at Christ they made me eat some food before I left. It was disgusting, and most certainly contributed to my vomiting (which is even worse when you’re wearing a hospital gown). So let’s hope that same theme isn’t carried over in this new endeavor.

All jokes aside, I think this is a cool program. We could all eat better (and lose a few).

If they took the Wendy’s out that would make me sad. :(
