Javier’s Closing

The Business Courier is reporting that Javier’s, on Walnut Street, is closing on Friday, February 26. They opened for dinner a couple of years ago, but aside from a handful of times, I never actually saw them open for dinner– which would be the only chance I’d have to try them. The one time I did stop in, I had one of the best margaritas I’d ever had, but never found it open again. I’m always sad to see a local restaurant close, but this one had a lot of potential for dinner. I hope Javier lands on his feet and can reopen in another location soon!

Agreed – it’s a shame they’re closing, but I had a similar experience as you. We were planning to go for dinner one Friday (!!) night, but I called to ensure they were open. They were there and answered the phone, but they weren’t quite sure they would be open for dinner. Wha? Huh? How does a restaurant not know if they’d be open for dinner at dinner time? (I called around 7pm on a Friday night.)

Not exactly the path to long-term success for a restaurant.

The food was good, not great, and they always were slammed for lunch with prices that were too high taking advantage of any real Mexican competition downtown for the casual diner.

The place always seemed to be hectic, and as you mentioned, the dinner hours never really happened so I wonder if poor management was to blame. In any case, downtown Cincinnati needs a new casual Mexican eatery (or two) to open up soon. And no, Chipotle doesn’t count, and Nada is in a different category.

I stopped in on a weekday off (a holiday) and had the BEST FISH BURRITO ever, along with one of those awesome margaritas. I’m sad to see Javier’s go.

I heard about this a last week and it was sad news to me. Javier is a good guy and a hard worker. As far as I know he’s not sure what he’s going to do next yet but I wish him best of luck.

And if I were the Creperie I’d stay right there on Court St.
