Shrimp and Grits waffles at Taste of Belgium this weekend

by julie on February 11, 2010

Jean-Francois does some mean waffles– I think I’ve extolled their virtues so much that you think I’m on the payroll (I’m not.).  My favorite version, though, has to be the Shrimp and Grits version– my favorite dish AND my favorite waffle all in one? Win!

Here’s what Jean-Francois has to say about his special this weekend in honor of Mardi Gras:

We incorporate sharp cheddar, coarse corn grits and loads of cayenne pepper into our waffle dough. We top the waffle with cocktail shrimps sauteed in olive, garlic and white wine and freshly chopped green onions and cilantro to cool you down.

We will bake our ‘Cajun waffles’ on Saturday and Sunday ($6.50).

By request (say thank you to Julie), the grits waffles this year will also be available by the 4-pack to take home (without the toppings, for $14).

Due to limited supply, if you want to get more than a few grits waffles to take home, call the store at 513-381-3280 to book some.

I tried it Sat. I wanted to like it because I can’t do the sugar in the regular ones, actually the waffle was the best part but the shrimp and grits were not so good. Sorry Jean-Francois, this one has promise but needs to go back to the kitchen and be reworked.

I believe the topping was shrimp– no grits. The grits were in the waffle.
