I'd take Kroger sushi over Ichiban and Dancing Wasabi any day. Seriously. If I want small, not-so-fresh rolls, and want to pay too much for them, those are the two places I'd go.

For my money in Mt. Lookout, Ruthai and Green Papaya get my sushi business.

For the best value and quality, however, no one beats Mr. Sushi and Ko-Sho. Living downtown, I was thrilled to see Mr. Sushi and have not had a bad experience or meal in half a dozen visits. Happy Ko-Sho is Northside now, because I rarely saw or heard of anyone eating there when they were downtown.

But, back on topic, I think SoHo is only open until 3:30 during weekdays. So, another lunch-only option for Downtowners (add it to the list). From walking by the doors today, it looks like they have counter service with a dozen or so options. Curious enough to try it, though.

Wrong, Mr. Sushi is seriously like the stuff you can buy at Kroger. Im hopeful for Soho Sushi, but its going to be hard to tear me away from Ichiban and Dancing Wasabi in Mt. Lookout

I had a great meal at Mr. Sushi a couple of weeks ago, however the place never seems to be busy. Not even on the weekends. Now a second sushi joint may be one too many.

Oh, good point. I never think of them because I never eat there-- they're usually closed by the time I hit home. Agreed on Chik Fil A.

I too would like to see more cheap alternatives

Cheap/FF eats we do have downtown include (in no particular order, and not to be considered an implied recommendation)
Wendy's
Gold Star
Skyline
Chik Fil A (my favorite of this particular group)
Arby's
Subway
Quiznos

Hi Dan!

You know, I do occasionally hit up a McDonald's (I like their Fruit and Yogurt parfaits and their salads are great quick late-night meals, particularly on the road). I'm sort of surprised we don't have a McDonald's, either. We do have places like Potbelly and Chipotle, but nothing a rung below, costwise.

While fast food may not be considered foodie enough for the blog, I can't believe with now two sushi places downtown, downtown can't support a McDonald's, a Buger King, or a Taco Bell, etc. Sometimes, I just want something fast and cheap.
