Kunzel Lager to debut at Cincinnati Pops on Saturday

by julie on July 28, 2010

Christian Moerlein is brewing a special, limited-edition Kunzel lager in honor of Erich Kunzel, the longtime Cincinnati Pops conductor (and founder) who recently passed away. On Saturday, July 31st, all ticket holders can come to a pre-Pops party and sample Kunzel Lager or purchase cases ($45). Portions of the sale will go to the Erich Kunzel Legacy Foundation. The doors open at 6:30, and the concert– which features Tony-award winning music performed by Debbie Gravitt, Christiane Noll, Doug LaBrecque and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, conducted by Randall Craig Fleischer.

Tickets are $18 and up and can be purchased at www.cincinnatipops.org.

The beer is a golden Helles, and limited to 200 cases. If you’d like a case and can’t attend the concert, you can order online, but it cannot be shipped– so you’ll have to pick it up.

$45 per case? Talk about overpriced.

I wonder if this “special golden Helles” tastes like the Lager House Golden Helles.

I guess it’s because there’s a charity donation involved. I had wondered if it tasted like the Lager House helles, too.
