A Tavola Pizzeria to open in the Gateway Quarter

by julie on September 7, 2010

What started as a pizza party at Take the Cake in Northside is now opening as a restaurant in the Gateway Quarter.

A Tavola Pizzeria, owned by Jared Wayne, Bill Draznik and Sam Ginocchio, will be opening at 1222 Vine Street (which is, I believe, two doors down from Senate) sometime this fall. They’ll be serving homemade pizzas, with locally-sourced ingredients and house-made products (they’ll cure their own bacon, sausage, and sopressata, and make their own dough and sauce), craft cocktails, craft beer, and “affordably priced” wines. Wayne is making the furniture for the space in his studio in Mt. Adams.

I was never able to make it to one of their Northside events, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about their pizza. This sounds like a place that will fit right into the Gateway Quarter, considering the other pizza place, Venice on Vine, is only open until 6 PM. Now, here’s to hoping that they stay open late– I’m sure they’d get a ton of business from the soon-to-open Lackman (a bar owned by the folks who produce The Righteous Room) if they are.

Julie, get super super excited. We made it to one of the pizza parties just before our wedding last fall and it was some of the best pizza we’ve ever had in our life. Our favorite was the house sausage with poached egg, but they were pretty much all spectacular.

Yes, it is 2 doors down from Senate. It’s the old Lucky Step space. However – if I heard correctly from the developers/agents they are splitting that larger storefront into two.

That’s what I figured. That space is HUGE– glad to see a couple of places getting in there.

Julie: Let us know when this place opens

Tavola guys: if you are reading this – and I’d bet a dollar if I had one that you are – my expectation is that you MATCH the quality of the pizza you ate at Motorino not all that long ago, but the price needs to be a lot lower.

and yes, the Motorino brussels sprouts/pancetta pizza MUST be on your menu. Ok, as compromise – a weekly special

Yeah, I’m not asking for much
