A Tavola Now Open

May 31, 2011

A Tavola, the much-anticipated pizzeria on Vine Street, is now open for business.  There are already reports on Twitter about drinks and such.  It was supposed to be a soft opening, but it seems like the word spread like wildfire on Twitter. A Tavola features wood-fired pizzas, craft cocktails, and charcuterie from charcutier Billy Draznik [...]

The Celestial Steakhouse, a staple of Mt. Adams dining and of jazz music in Cincinnati, has lost their liquor license, at least temporarily. The owner, Chanaka De Lanerolle, fell behind on his taxes and his liquor license was revoked, according to Ohio Liquor Control’s website and court records. (ETA: There is a transfer on record, [...]

Cincinnati Fringe: Visual Fringe, “Yes You Can Eat It”

May 31, 2011

I love Fringe– I’m a theater person at heart, and it’s so fun to dedicate the majority of two weeks to a lot of really interesting theater and visual art. This year, Fringe is trying to take visual art out of the gallery and into the community, and one of those ways is to incorporate [...]

Bits and Bites:Taste of Cincinnati 2011

May 30, 2011

So two days of Taste down, one left. We strolled down Fifth Street last night and sampled a few of the selections (we may be back later– we skipped dessert!): 1. Duck Fat Fries from The Bistro– yum.  They aren’t the same fries they use in the restaurant, but the coating is definitely the same. [...]

Review: Roc-A-Fellas Pizza

May 25, 2011

I like pizza coupled with good causes. Roc-A-Fellas Pizza, in Sharonville, is run by a Christian organization that uses the proceeds from the pizza (and some other businesses) to fund their missions that support inner-city youth and clean water in Nigeria, among others.  I’m not religious, but I can get behind clean water in Nigeria, [...]

Taste of Cincinnati Chat on Friday!

May 24, 2011

I LOVE Taste of Cincinnati. I really do. Since I’m downtown to begin with, we stroll to Taste a couple of times during the long weekend– it’s like an open-air diner for us. We always try a bunch of different dishes, and I’ll be reporting back throughout the weekend. To kick off Taste, I’ll be [...]

Review: It’s Just Crepes

May 20, 2011

I actually had someone angry with me once because I said that It’s Just Crepes wasn’t my favorite.  It’s okay– we’re good now– but the reason I wasn’t big into it is because when I think of crepes, I think of delicate crepes filled with simple ingredients: lavender, lemon, sugar or nutella, for example; or [...]
