Review: Eli’s

October 31, 2011

I love it when menus make it easy for me to decide.  One item? I can do that. Eli’s is currently located in a small tent near the Saigon Market side of Findlay Market.  It’s one guy, one griddle, a pork shoulder and a little attitude.  They bill themselves as a life-changing sandwich.  I can buy [...]

Review: Dinastia Latina

October 28, 2011

I have a craving for Brij Mohan about once a week. I actually cash in on that craving about once every other month. The last time I had a craving, on my way up to Ikea on a Saturday evening (my life is glamorous), I decided what I really wanted to do was try the [...]

Review: Rascal’s Deli

October 27, 2011

“I went to this great deli for lunch today. I almost called you to come down here, but then I realized I didn’t want to have to share.” I love my coworkers. Ever since that conversation, my coworker John has been cajoling me to try out Rascal’s Deli in Blue Ash. We’ve spent an inordinate [...]

bacon-wrapped meatloaf

October 16, 2011

I got into a cooking mood on Sunday, and this is what I did. Before: After: That’s a meat loaf, made of 50% chuck, 25% pork and 25% veal, mixed with yogurt, egg, saltines and spices and baked with a bacon lattice.  Glazed twice with a mixture of Mae Ploy chili sauce, brown sugar and [...]

Photo Preview: Abigail Street

October 14, 2011

It doesn’t open until November 1, but I got a sneak peek at the interior of Abigail Street, the sister restaurant to Senate, as they took the paper down in the windows today.  My favorite shot is of the chandelier in the men’s room (probably the first and last time I see it). Abigal Street [...]

Shanghai Mama’s to Reopen Soon

October 14, 2011

I spoke with a member of the management team of Shanghai Mama’s, yesterday afternoon. He said that the fire was caused by an electrical short behind the bar, and destroyed a good portion of the bar, including the bamboo roof. To the left is the damage to the bar area, provided by Shanghai Mama’s. The kitchen [...]

Fire at Shanghai Mama’s

October 12, 2011

WCPO is reporting that Shanghai Mama’s, one of the few late-night options in downtown Cincinnati, caught on fire last night and it caused “significant damage”. I’ll update the story as I hear more information– particularly about plans for reopening.

Taste of the NFL 2011

October 11, 2011

(Guest post by The Better Half) Why do I do this to myself? Every year when the Cincinnati Bengals’ Taste of the NFL rolls around, I make myself a solemn promise: “I, The Better Half, solemnly swear not to stuff my face until I’m beyond miserable. OK, so maybe there will be forty or more [...]

Summer Genetti moves to Honey

October 10, 2011

Summer Genetti, a local favorite pastry chef who, for the past two and a half years, has worked along Jose Salazar at the Cincinnatian, has moved to Honey in Northside.  I heard she had moved on several months ago, and recently found out that she’d moved to Honey, but she made her first public appearance [...]
