Review: Tot Dogs

UntitledI heard about this from Eggplant to Go, and on a recent Friday afternoon when I had taken the day off, trotted down Vine to check this little place out.

And it is little– if you want to eat, you need to stand, as there are no tables or chairs.  There’s simply a counter where you can order your job, grab some napkins, and go (I suggest walking a block or so north to the Library’s garden and eating them there).   I ordered two dogs– their special, which was

spicy chicken sausage with apple butter and cheese (it sounds odd, but it was unexpectedly good) and cheese as well as  a Kosher dog with asian slaw.  The dogs were great quality– a nice snap with that first bite– and the toppings were nice, too.  Good quality– somewhere just below “gourmet”, which for $9 for two dogs is OK by me.

I chatted with the folks who were running it– the kids of the owners of Lucy Blue.  They’re looking to eventually stay open late night for the bar scene.  Their dogs are perfect for an inexpensive, quick meal after some bar hopping.

  • For someone who loves to toppings more than the dog itself, this sounds right up my alley.

I also wanted to ask for a recommendation from you.  I’m looking for a good little lunch place near Kenwood Mall, or an early dinner spot in the same area.  I’d love something with some vegetarian and/or vegan options but it doesn’t have to be it’s sole offerings.  I’m familiar with Trio and of course Montgomery Inn but didn’t know of any other spots in that area.  Obviously, no chains, please (:  Thanks!

  • Hey Julie – I have a similar question to Danielle’s – I need a nice dinner spot in Blue Ash/Kenwood/Mason area with vegetarian options. I’m planning on going to Brown Dog, but wasn’t sure if you might have some other ideas (Wildflower Cafe not formal enough), Thanks!

  • Have you checked out New Oreleans To Go yet?! They are amazing! I think they are going back downtown more often, (parking headaches was the rumor). But you can also find them other places in town if you look on FB.

If you haven’t gone there yet- you are truly missing out!!
