Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
Wow, quite a year.
I have a lot to be thankful for.
There’s family, of course, who I don’t see as often as I should. My friends are my family, and I’m thankful for them– some brand new and some who’ve been around for a while. A bunch of them are coming over for our Friendsgiving this year, and it’s my favorite party I throw every year because it’s so focused on having a good time with people you know– or, in some cases, don’t know. We’re all friends by the end of the night.
I’m thankful for my Mom, too, even if she still makes me call every time I get on a plane. Or in a car. Or go anywhere, really. I’m still ticked you’re not coming to Friendsgiving this year, but I’ll be sure to drop a plate of leftovers off tomorrow.
I’m thankful for opportunities. I’ve a had a lot of great ones this year. Writing for Express Cincinnati, leadership in the Junior League, freelance work, speaking at conferences, travel… all sorts of things. Good stuff.
I’m thankful for Cincinnati. Goodness gracious, we’re doing some good things, aren’t we? I don’t have enough hours in the day to attend all of the stuff that’s going on. The picture is from the Moerlein Brewery opening last night. Who would have thought we’d have brewers back in OTR ten years ago? Or a vibrant downtown, a hip OTR, or a crazy restaurant scene? Though I love to travel and leave Cincinnati, I always love coming back. (Does anyone know if the Turkey or the Pilgrim won in the Turkey Trot last night? Inquiring minds.)
I’m thankful for the experience of losing my job– it taught me a lot about myself as well as about the people around me who made sure I didn’t jump off a ledge in the four months I was out of work.
I’m thankful for my new job, and all of the wonderful people I get to work with. I have to say, publishing is a fantastic industry– and that’s because of the people.
I’m thankful for my cats, who endured endless Instagrams when I was home too much.
I’m thankful for you, my readers, who’ve stuck with me despite me being not quite as prolific as I have been in the past. You rock.
Most of all, I’m thankful for The Better Half, who puts up with me, lets me be me, and was the key person who made sure that no ledges were injured in the summer of 2012.
And now, as has become a WMDM Thanksgiving tradition, the best few minutes on TV ever.
