Cocktail Hour: Creme Yvette

November 3, 2011

Okay, just a disclaimer. I profiled Chris Seelbach back in May with the Seelbach Cocktail, and offered the opportunity for a similar feature to any other candidate.  Yvette Simpson was the only other candidate who I contacted who wanted to a) talk about her candidacy with a food blogger and b) had a cocktail or [...]

Tony Bourdain at the Aronoff: 94 F-Bombs and Counting

June 28, 2010

“Tonight is a bad night to eat out in Cincinnati.” What an accurate opening line for Anthony Bourdain’s show at the Aronoff last night.  Just walking in, I saw several prominent local chefs, wine experts, spirits experts, food writers, food bloggers and just plain old fans, all gathered in a nearly sold-out theater to hear [...]

So what to do on Valentine’s Day?

February 9, 2009

(This was originally published in Cincy Chic. As much as I don’t believe that chain restaurants should be eligible for Best Damn Dish at Taste of Cincinnati, I had to admit they have a pretty nice Valentine’s special.) Whether you’re single in the ciy, or cuddling with your honey, Valentine’s Day is upon us. Want [...]

Go read Just Cured.

January 25, 2009

Just do it. This is the best commentary on the entire Jean-Robert/Wade situation, and about Cincinnati dining both past and present, that I’ve heard or read. (Plus, Michael has a great blog in general that you should read… and his smoked products are to die for.)

New Cincinnati Food-Related Blog: Hoperatives

January 4, 2009

Such a cute name, isn’t it? Tom and Carla started a blog that reflects the beer culture of Cincinnati. Hoperatives focuses on Cincinnati and the region, and its rich history of beer. Sounds like fun!  I’m personally on a beer kick (hanging out in Munich will do a girl) so I’ll definitely be reading.

Review: Skyline

December 23, 2008

Cincinnati Chili, particularly Skyline is, I think, the most ubiquitous of Cincinnati foods.  We’re known for it.  If you grew up here, you probably like it.  If you didn’t, you either love it or hate it.  I talked a little about the history of Cincinnati chili here. Skyline holds a special place in my heart, [...]

Review: Palomino Euro Bistro

November 16, 2008

I love getting stuff in the mail.  I tend to shop via the internet because I just love packages or really anything that isn’t a bill in my mailbox.  I get a lot of junk mail, too, but every once in a while I’ll find something a little special– like a $20 gift certificate from [...]

Review: Bar Food and Chimay Tasting at Morton’s

October 10, 2008

Morton’s and I have had a tumultuous relationship. One of my very first posts here was about a mediocre experience there back in January. A friend, however, is quite a regular there and encouraged me to go– at least to try the bar food. The bar food, he emphasized, was really good. So, two weeks [...]

Review: Pit to Plate

September 9, 2008

Well, hallelujah. Pit to Plate doesn’t disappoint. Terry and I, after spending a ton of time talking to Terry Lee over at Outside about barbecue, decided that we absolutely, positively, NEEDED to get barbecue right then. Terry Lee sent us off, telling us to report back on the “Q”. So we did. I love Saturdays. [...]
